SVCC Performs the Musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown"

Sauk Valley Community College’s Theatre Department invites you to hang out with the “Peanuts” gang as they present the award winning musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 20, Saturday, April 21, Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28. There will also be two matinees at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22 and 29. All the performances will take place at SVCC’s Mathis Theatre.

It's a typical day in the life of Charles Schultz's "Peanuts" characters: Charlie Brown can't get his kite to fly, Linus won't put down his blanket, Schroeder aspires to be Beethoven, Sally's teacher won't cut her a break, Lucy wants to be queen, and Snoopy just wants dinner. But even on ordinary days, anything is possible. Grab a seat as the gang sings about the ups and downs of childhood along with everyone's favorite "blockhead" Charlie Brown, the boy who just wants to do something right.

Anna K. Kurtz, Sauk’s theater director, is excited to see this production come to life. “These are iconic characters, especially Charlie Brown, who has endeared himself to us through his determination, heart, and comedic struggles. Audiences will be swept up in this musical rendition of their stories whether they have loved ‘Peanuts’ for years or are being introduced to these characters for the first time. It is a show for the whole family.”

This production includes the onstage talents of Kevin Tumelson (Charlie Brown) and Peter Balser (Linus) of Dixon, Jorge Chirinos (Snoopy), Ryan Downing (Schroeder), Natalie Olds (Sally), Alli Wolber (Lucy) and Sam Twining of Sterling, and Samantha Sisson of Rock Falls as well as several area musicians. The production team for “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” includes music director, Kris Murray, stage managers, Spencer Aurand and Roy Wilkins, choreographer, Monique Elmendorf, designer, Andrew Kida, and pianist, Patrick Sheehan.

The Sauk Valley Community College Alumni Association will also hold a special event Sunday, April 22 following the performance for SVCC alumni and their families. This free event will include refreshments, photo opportunities with the “Peanuts” gang, Charlie Brown activities, giveaways and more. SVCC alumni can call 815-835-6345 to ask about special priced tickets for this Sunday matinee.
