Sauk Valley Community College will give a free “sneak peek” at college life and start the transition for new SVCC students at Start Smart at Sauk on Tuesday, June 12 from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. or Thursday, July 12, from 4:30-8 p.m.
Start Smart at Sauk will give new students a preview of the opportunities that SVCC will offer once the fall semester starts. Participants will meet current SVCC students and their future classmates, learn about student services, tour the campus, get a sense of campus life and activities and learn skills needed to be successful in higher education. Families are also strongly encouraged to attend to learn how they can help in their students’ success as well.
Students that attend the June 12 program will also have the opportunity to make an appointment to meet with a counselor to register for fall classes.
Sarah McFarlane, Sauk’s retention specialist, explained that this event will enable new students of any age to hit the ground running this fall.
“New students that attend this event will have the advantage of having success strategies already in place by the time they start at Sauk,” said McFarlane. “These students will have a better understanding of what is expected of them before they enter the classroom. It relieves the stress of what to expect on the first day of school.”
Start Smart at Sauk will provide a meal for all participants as well as a chance to win prizes including a free three credit hour class!
