A Local Election 2012 Opportunity for Voters, Candidates and Officials

Voters in Carroll, Lee and Whiteside counties are invited to learn more about Illinois local government, the upcoming election, candidates and local officials. University of Illinois Extension will open the program with a short presentation about Illinois’ local governments—the most unique structure in the nation—that will inform residents of what they should know about their own communities and their own neighborhoods. County Clerks from Carroll, Lee and Whiteside will discuss election issues such as early and absentee voting, getting on the ballot, write-in votes and more. Finally all candidates who will be on the November ballot have been invited to a meet and greet following the presentations.

When: Monday, September 24th 6:00 pm

Where: Sauk Valley Community College East Mall, Dixon

Who: This program is for the public/voters in Carroll, Lee and Whiteside counties

Why: Illinois voters who understand the who and what of our local government structure will be able to make better-informed decisions at the ballot box. Voters who have a chance to speak with their candidates and officials on an informal basis can make an even more informed choice on election day.

All candidates—local, state and federal—who are on the Carroll, Lee and Whiteside county ballots were sent an invitation to register for a Meet’n’Greet table for Red, White & You. Additionally, municipalities and townships, though not on the November ballot, were also mailed an invitation and encouraged to register for a table. There are no fees for candidates, officials or the public for this event. The public does not need to register. Candidates/officials who will participate in the Meet’n’Greet should register through University of Illinois Extension, online at or by phone at 815-835-2070.
