Author & Entrepreneur Jack Schultz Keynote Speaker

Jack Schultz will be the keynote speaker for the October 3 Sauk Valley Symposium, a joint effort by Midland States Bank, Sauk Valley Community College and Sauk Valley Media.

Schultz, a noted entrepreneur, is the author of "Boomtown USA: The 7 ½  Keys to Big Success in Small Towns," a book that gives advice for rural communities to use to create new and brighter economic futures.

The symposium will take place at SVCC. The public is invited. Admission is free.

A meet-and-greet reception with Schultz will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the East Mall with refreshments.  At 6:30 p.m., Schultz will give the keynote address in the Jerry Mathis Theater, which is adjacent to the East Mall. His remarks will be based on his experience and research on the principles he uses to create jobs. A written question-and-answer session will follow his address. Jason Anderson, economic development director for the city of Rochelle and the Greater Rochelle Economic Development Corp, will share his story on the community’s successful implementation of the “Boomtown USA” principles. The event should wrap up by 8:00 p.m.

For a Sauk Valley region that is hungry for jobs, Schultz's message should be of great interest and importance – even more so because of entrepreneurial credentials we haven't mentioned yet.

In 2005, Schultz was named Ernst & Young's Illinois Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2006, he received the Beta Gamma Sigma Medallion for Entrepreneurship.
