Sauk Valley Community College would like to inform the public on the recent findings of a reported pipe bomb along the Rock River banks behind the school’s property.
The reported object on the banks of the river never placed any threat to the safety of the students or employees at SVCC. Officials surmised the object was intended to be used as an illegal fishing device and was not intended to harm anyone. The object landed along the shores of SVCC by chance. As reported by Sheriff Varga, "the school was not in danger."
SVCC takes the safety of its students and employees seriously and has full-time security and procedures in place to handle all emergency situations. SVCC would like to thank the rapid response of the local law enforcement agencies who handled the situation with the utmost professionalism.
