Spoken Word Poet Takes Stage

Sauk Valley Community College will host spoken word poet, Joaquín Zihuatanejo Monday, September 16 from 12:30-1:30PM at SVCC’s Mathis Theater.

Zihuatanejo, raised in the barrios of East Dallas, has been named a National Poetry Slam Finalist, Grand Slam Spoken Word Champion, and HBO Def Poet, among many others. He also earned several awards for his creative writing as a high school educator.  He has shared a stage with people such as Billy Collins, Saul Williams, E. Lynn Harris, Alicia Keys, and Maya Angelou. His performances combine comedy, poetry and dramatic monologue of life in the barrios for a crowd-pleasing show.
