Visit Sauk Valley Community College December 2-5 for a special display of the AIDS memorial quilt in the east mall as we recognize World AIDS Day.
This year SVCC has the privilege of displaying sections of the AIDS memorial quilt. Guests will be able to view three sections of the 54-ton handmade tapestry. The whole quilt, started in 1987 by a small group in San Francisco, shows over 94,000 names of individuals that lost to AIDS on over 1.3 million square feet of material. It is the largest community art project in the world and has been the subject of countless books, films, papers, articles, and performances.
The quilt display is free to the public and sponsored by SVCC’s student activities and student government. For more information, contact Ana Salgado, student activities coordinator, at 815-835-6432.
