Sauk Valley Community College Invites You to Walk A Mile in Her Shoes October 25
The Social Justice Organization (SJO) of Sauk Valley Community College has partnered with the Sauk Valley YWCA to host the Walk a Sauk Mile in her Shoes event Wednesday, October 25 from 12:15-1:30 p.m. in Sauk’s West Mall.
This event is intended to help students learn awareness of sexualized violence, how to stand up and walk the walk against oppression, and to start a conversation about an often taboo and difficult subject.
Participants will have an opportunity to engage with the YWCA and walk a mile in high heels. Large-size shoes will be available for participants. The traditional march is an international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence.
Sauk Walk a Mile is a call to action for our community members to show their support for a society that condemns assault, stand against these heinous acts, show our collective respect for women, and create change. College students are particularly vulnerable to sexual assault in their first few months of college and these incidents often go unreported.
This event is free and open to the public, but participants are asked to register ahead of time to help ensure enough shoes are available and for waiver of liability form. Please contact Tedra Mewhirter to register and for event details, 815-835-6223, firstname.lastname@example.org and visit the SJO Facebook page @svccsocialjustice.
