Disability Support Grievance Procedures
Sauk Valley Community College is committed to providing equal education opportunities for persons with disabilities, and does so in accordance with the Nondiscrimination Policy of Sauk Valley Community College, and in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as amended. In accordance with this policy, students with disabilities have the right to request accommodations to attend and participate in all programs, events and facilities sponsored by the institution. If a student has a grievance with the accommodations extended, they have 30 days to contest the decision.
If a student has a disability related grievance they should contact the Coordinator of Disability Support, 815 288 5511 extension 246, or 815 835 6246 room 1G4 to discuss the grievance. If the student and the Coordinator are unable to resolve the complaint, the student should complete and submit a written grievance form (link). The grievance will be reviewed and the student will be contacted by the Dean of Student Services within 5 business days of the filed grievance. The Dean of Student Services, the Coordinator of Disability Support, and the student will meet to discuss the filed grievance. The student has the right to bring an advocate with them to the meeting, if they so choose. If no resolution can be reached to the satisfaction of all parties, the filed grievance will be submitted to the Affirmative Action Officer, 815 835 6291, located in room 3L18. A formal grievance committee will be convened to review the complaint and a written response will be provided to the student within 10 business days from the date the grievance was submitted to the Affirmative Action Officer.
All written grievances will be reviewed and appropriate action will be taken. No retaliation or intimidation of any person involved with the grievance procedure will be tolerated and is a direct violation of College policy.
