If you are an online student or thinking about becoming an online student, SVCC is here to serve you with a variety of online support to meet your needs.
Online Assessment System for Internet Students
The Online Assessment System for Internet Students, or OASIS resource allows prospective online students to complete a Study Skills Assessment in order to determine individual readiness for enrollment in an online course.
As an online student, you may wish to visit the SVCC Counseling Department portion of our website. There you will find many online resources to aid in career exploration and academic planning. In addition, if you wish to obtain help with educational planning, career counseling, and personal, social, or life transition assistance, the Counseling Department is here to assist you. All first time students are required to meet with an academic advisor. Online students may schedule a meeting during the Counseling Office's extended hours or arrange for an online appointment via our Collaborate web-conferencing system. For further information or to schedule an online appointment, contact Counseling at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Visit the academic calendar link to locate important dates and deadlines.
Begin the admissions process by completing the online Student Information Form.
Books, course materials, and other items may be ordered online through the SVCC Bookstore. E-books are available for some texts. Books purchased with financial aid dollars must be picked up in person in order to verify the financial award.
Discovering which textbook is required for your course is easy. Visit the Class Schedule and locate your course and section. Use your mouse to select the book icon on the right side of the screen. The book title, author, ISBN number, and edition will be listed along with the bookstore price for the text.
Online students pay tuition at the same rate as in-district students at SVCC. Fees vary from course to course. Several Options for Tuition Payment are available.
Visit the Financial Aid department online to find information about financial aid, scholarships, and the FAFSA application form. Questions? Email them at email@example.com.
The Business Office handles all tuition and fee payments to the college. Online students may find it useful to pay with a credit or debit card online. Visit the Sauk Valley Student Account Suite to manage your account.
Students will log in with their student id and pin. As an additional service, a deferred or scheduled payment plan may be requested and managed online.
Students with documented disabilities who wish to receive accomodations or accessibility services must register and meet with the staff of the Disability Support offices in person. At this time, this service is not offered online.
The Disability Support office may be reached by phone at 815-835-6246.
Students enrolled in online courses may be required to take proctored exams in the SVCC Testing Center or another approved testing center. Instructors will indicate whether your exams need to be completed in a proctored environment in the course syllabus, in the Moodle section for the course, or via email. Not all instructors require proctored exams.
A proctor is a person who supervises exams. Proctored exams are used to ensure academic integrity. It is your responsibility to locate a suitable proctor in a timely manner if you are unable to utilize the SVCC Testing Center. Testing Centers generally require a form of photo identification. Students are responsible for any costs incurred by the use of other Testing Centers.
Additional questions may be directed to the Testing Center at firstname.lastname@example.org.
