For the purpose of VA education benefits, training time is calculated on a day-by-day basis.
For Montgomery G.I. Bill (MGIB), MGIB Selected Reserve, Reserve Educational Assistance Program and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program, 12+ credit hours are considered full-time, 9-11 credits are three-quarter time, and 6-8 credits are half-time and 1-5 credits are considered less than half time. For all of these benefits except MGIB Selected Reserve, students registered less than half time are paid tuition and fees only, not to exceed the VA set limit. Current rates may be found here.
For courses that are shorter than the normal term (16 weeks), the VA calculates the training time equivalent.
Students who are using Post 9/11 G.I. Bill or are taking courses that are shorter than the normal term should contact the Veterans Certifying Official to ensure understanding of training time.
