Placement Testing

Sauk Valley Community College is committed to providing students with the greatest chance of success in initial and future coursework. Therefore, SVCC has adopted a placement policy to ensure that  students enroll in courses that most accurately reflect their current skills and abilities in English usage, reading and mathematics.

How are students' skills in these areas measured?
Students' skills are measured using one of the following options for placement:

1. SVCC Placement Test Results

2. COMPASS Reading, Writing Skills and Mathematics

3. ACT Scores - Individual scores in the areas of English, reading, mathematics (ACT needs to be taken within the past three years)

4. Review credit already earned at any accredited college or university including Sauk Valley Community College

Sample review questions for the ACT COMPASS test can be found at www.act.org/compass/sample/index.html

Placement Test Exemptions - Previously Earned College Credit
