Skyhawk Volleyball Coaches 2011
Head Coach Jay Howell
The 2011 season is Jay Howell’s second year as head volleyball coach at Sauk Valley Community College. In Howell’s first season, the Skyhawks’ won 17 matches, and played their best volleyball down the stretch - winning 9 of their final 15 matches.
Prior to coming to the Skyhawks, Howell had 15 years of volleyball coaching experience at the high school and junior high level. He was the head volleyball coach at Sterling Newman High School from 2004-09. He is also the head girls’ basketball coach at Newman, and coaches club volleyball for Excess Volleyball.
Howell graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, and is the Studies and Plans Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation’s District Two office in Dixon.
Jay resides in Dixon with his wife Sue. They have seven children (six daughters and one son) four of whom have attended SVCC
Assistant Coach Dawn Glassburn
Former head coach Dawn Glassburn returns to the assistant coach slot of the Skyhawks’ volleyball program for the 2011 season.
Volleyball has always been in Glassburn’s blood. As an athlete, she played volleyball at Polo High School, and, during her sophomore year at Sauk in 1984, received Arrowhead All-Conference honors.
As a coach, Glassburn has stayed true to the sport serving as assistant coach at Newman Central Catholic High School for two years before joining Sauk as assistant coach from 1993-96. In addition, she served as assistant coach at Byron High School from 1999-03 and head coach at Polo High School in 2005-06. Glassburn earned an Associate in Arts from Sauk in 1984, a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Bradley University, a Master of Science in Physical Education from Northern Illinois University in 2003 and a Masters in Administration from Aurora University in 2007.
Glassburn currently teaches physical education at Byron High School. Glassburn resides near Tampico with husband Steve.
