Link Between Assessment and Strategic
Planning
One significant outcome of the assessment committee adopting the
Nichols assessment model was the development in August 2004 of a
Planning Relationship chart, adapted from the Nichols system, which
defined the link between academic assessment data, the strategic
planning process, and the budget. (See
Illustration 5) Once approved by the task
force, this graphic representation of the system (locally known by
some as the mother slide), formed the basis of concurrent
development of strategic planning and assessment systems, marking
the end of the institution's attempt to address the subjects of the
focused visit as separate concerns.
