Information Services - Computer Lab Work Study

Function of the Job

This job involves working with students as they use the computers located in the open computer lab (rooms 2F1, 2F3, 2F5), the Write Place (rooms 2C3A, 3C3B, 2D1), and the adult education lab (room 1E08). The student is preferred to have knowledge in the use of computers and software. Individuals having completed computer courses will be given extra consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist students in the operation of lab computers, software, and printers
  2. Answer student questions regarding the use of software or solve minor problems a student may be having as experience dictates
  3. Notify students of lab closures and redirect to other labs
  4. Provide basic maintenance of computer and lab
  5. Load paper in the printers for all labs as necessary
  6. Replace printer toner cartridges as necessary
  7. Clean tables, computer monitors, keyboards and the mouse
  8. Report broken and non-working computers, monitors, printers, etc.
  9. Monitor students
  10. Monitor and view all computer screens in 2F01 using Insight software
  11. Report misuse of computers
  12. Provide technical support in the technology enhanced classrooms throughout the building for faculty and students during evening hours.
  13. Provide basic technical support for student personal laptops, tablets, etc.
  14. Connecting to wireless
  15. Help troubleshoot browser and plugin issues
  16. No hardware support
  17. One-on-one and small group basic software and hardware training
  18. Other duties as reasonably assigned by Information Services Department staff.

Essential Functions

  1. Must display professionalism and confidentiality in all matters
  2. Must be able to communicate by telephone on a daily basis.
  3. Must be dependable, accurate, self-motivated, initiative, organized and be able to prioritize workload
  4. Must be able to use computers.
  5. Must be able to operate basic office equipment.
  6. Must be able to provide and understand verbal/visual orders from supervisors.

Personal Interaction

Daily contact with College personnel, faculty, students, and the general public in the routine performance of duties and departmental services.

Requirements

Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses.

The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. Students participating in the Federal Work Study Program are paid minimum wage and can work up to 20 hours per week. The student is not guaranteed a set number of hours per week.
