Function of the Job
The objective of the tutoring program is to help the student comprehend course material in order to successfully complete the course. Tutors work closely with the SSS staff and with instructors. Tutors generally work with one student at a time, but may work with more than one student.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide tutorial assistance as assigned.
- Assist students in the development of study skills necessary for successful completion of courses
- Maintain accurate and current documentation concerning student contact and progress.
- Maintain contact with staff and faculty as required.
- Refer students to SSS staff for information or assistance with issues such as academic (advisement, juggling family, work and school, stress and time management, self-esteem and independence, study skills), career exploration, and transfer assistance.
- Conduct tutoring sessions in designated areas for scheduled time periods.
- Provide assistance to staff members to research, implement, and maintain the tutoring component in order to improve the tutoring program.
- Attend mandatory trainings.
- In the event of tutoring session cancellations or while the tutor is being assigned to a tutee, the tutor will assist the department in clerical tasks as assigned by the Director or Administrative Assistant.
- Other duties as reasonably assigned by Student Support Services staff.
Essential Functions
- Must display professionalism and confidentiality in all matters
- Must be able to communicate by telephone on a daily basis.
- Must be able to use computers.
- Must be able to operate basic office equipment.
- Must be able to provide and understand verbal/visual orders from supervisors.
Personal Interaction
Daily contact with College personnel, faculty, students, and the general public in the routine performance of duties and departmental services.

Requirements
This position is under the TRIO Student Support Services Program. Qualified candidates must be accepted into the TRIO Student Services Program.
Tutors must verify by transcript that they are qualified to tutor a course. Minimum GPA of 3.0 and received a grade of “A” or “B” in each course to be tutored.
Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. Students participating in the Federal Work Study Program are paid minimum wage and can work up to 20 hours per week. The student is not guaranteed a set number of hours per week.
In order to qualify for the Federal Work Study Program the student must:
- be enrolled half-time (or greater) at the College (half-time is 6cr for fall/spring and 3cr for summer),
- be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program,
- be in good academic standing; and
- must have eligibility (financial need) as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Tort Liability Statement:
Coordinates the College Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position.
