The General Education Core Curriculum (GECC) is a package of Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) general education courses that will satisfy the lower-division general education requirements at IAI-participating colleges and universities in Illinois. The GECC is included in the Associate in Arts (AA) degree. Students should always work with an SVCC advisor for help with enrolling in the most appropriate general education classes. Learn more about the GECC at https://itransfer.org/.
More about the GECC:
- Some, but not all, GECC classes appear in the associate in science (AS), associate in fine arts (AFA), and associate in applied science (AAS) degrees.
- The GECC does not include the SVCC degree requirements for First Year Experience (FYE, 1 semester hour) and Personal Health and Development (3 semester hours).
- The GECC is recognized as a statewide credential and it will be noted on a student’s transcript when a student earns an AA from SVCC. However, the GECC credential is not recognized as a workforce or industry certificate.
