Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomist for the Kiley Developmental Center located in Waukegan, Illinois to perform technical phlebotomist duties, per physician’s orders. Immediately reports all critical test results to responsible medical staff (e.g., Registered Nurse, Physician) in accordance with institutional policy. Draws blood samples from patients. Prepares, processes and labels blood, urine and other specimens for transportation to a contractual laboratory for testing. Completes EKG tracings. Ensures timely entry of test results into laboratory database. Accurately identifies inpatient host prior to specimen acquisition using name, date of birth and photograph.

Essential Functions
•       Per physician’s orders, performs technical phlebotomist duties for Kiley Developmental Center’s laboratory.
•       Performs formal incident reporting for all lab-related mishaps (errors, injuries, etc.) to facilitate timely remediation and safety.
•       Seeks clarification for ambiguous lab-related orders via accountable medical staff.
•       Ensures timely entry of diagnostic lab results obtained extrinsically into 4Medica and Bluezone software systems.
•       Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
•       Requires education and experience equivalent to completion of high school, supplemented by one (1) years’ experience in the practice of phlebotomy.
Conditions of Employment
•       Requires ability to complete a training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency of Clinical Laboratory services or the American Society of Clinical Pathologist and to pass the exam and be certified (CPT) within the probationary period.
•       Requires the ability to utilize office equipment including the use of computer related software.
•       Requires the ability to perform Electrocardiogram (EKG) adhering to established protocols and procedures.
•       Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
•       Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
•       Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
•       Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
