Function of the Job
The TRIO SSS Program Specialist plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the program, directly supporting SSS students and assisting the Program Director with various initiatives. The Specialist will be responsible for the oversight of the TRIO Student Tutor Program, managing front desk operations, connecting students with vital resources, and contributing to data collection and analysis efforts. This position requires a collaborative spirit, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all SSS participants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in tracking and implementing strategies to increase SSSP student engagement, retention, and persistence.
- Assist with daily program functions, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Assist with TRIO SSS programming, event planning, and development.
- Provide direct oversight and management of the TRIO Student Tutor Program, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and evaluation of student tutors.
- Assist with front desk administrative operations, provide a welcoming first point of contact for SSS students and visitors.
- Connect SSS students with appropriate campus and community resources, making referrals as needed.
- Conduct outreach directly to students for purposes of student success and retention.
- Create and maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive community environment for all SSS students. Work collaboratively and effectively with all SSS staff to achieve program goals and objectives.
- Assist with departmental data collection and analysis efforts as assigned by the Program Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the TRIO Student Support Services program.

skills.
3. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products.
4. Must be able to provide oral/verbal responses to student questions, and assist
faculty given general
guidance.
5. Must be able to work in a team environment.
6. Must be able to work flexible hours.
Personal Interaction
Frequent contact is made with all levels of College personnel, students, faculty, the general public, and outside organizations in relation to specific departmental duties and services.
Supervision Exercised
Functional supervision is exercised over designated College work-study students.
Requirements
Required
- Associate's degree.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating empathy, patience, and a student-centered approach.
- Proficiency in database and spreadsheet applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets) for data management and reporting.
- Experience managing or coordinating a team of tutors or similar student employees.
Preferred:
- Background similar to that of the SSSP participants, demonstrating an understanding of the challenges and needs of first-generation, low-income, and/or students with disabilities.

This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring conditions, events and circumstances present through daily College operations, and communicating observations to the appropriate supervisor or taking necessary actions to correct, prevent or limit safety problems.
