Function of the Job
The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Navigator serves as a high-touch, relationship-centered advisor supporting youth and adult learners enrolled in or transitioning into Career & Technical Education pathways at Sauk Valley Community College. Using an Appreciative Advising model, the CTE Navigator provides proactive academic, career, and personal support to students pursuing credentials and degrees in Healthcare and Manufacturing pathways. This is a grant-funded, temporary position expiring in June 2027.
Duties and Responsibilities
Student Advising & Case Management
- Maintain an active caseload of approximately 50 students per Navigator across designated CTE pathways.
- Deliver individualized academic and career advising using the Appreciative Advising framework.
- Support student transitions from dual credit and non-credit programs into credit-bearing CTE programs.
Early Alert & Academic Intervention
- Utilize Navigate360 alerts, fifth-week progress reports, and mid-semester data to identify at-risk students. Coordinate timely interventions and support student success.
- Refer students to tutoring, supplemental instruction, disability accommodations, mental health counseling, and community resources.
Work-Based Learning & Employer Engagement
- Assist students in obtaining paid internships, clinicals, pre-apprenticeships, and extended internships with employer partners.
- Collaborate with regional employers annually to support job shadowing, facility tours, curriculum alignment, and hiring events.
Career Pathway Development & Outreach
- Support career exploration initiatives through collaboration with Admissions, Recruiting, and Marketing to promote CTE pathways and student supports.
- Assist in the development and implementation of seamless education and training pathways from middle school through employment, tracking participation and outcomes.
Program Evaluation & Reporting
- Collect and document data related to enrollment, retention, completion, work-based learning participation, and employment outcomes.
- Assist with grant reporting, outcome evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Support preparation of final reports and documentation required by funding agencies.
Essential Functions
- Must understand and support the mission of the community college.
- Must have strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to provide oral and written responses to student questions, and assist the instructor when giving general guidance.
- Must be able to communicate effectively by email and phone on a daily basis
- Must be able to travel to class sites to serve specific groups of students.
- Must have the ability to attend professional development meetings as well as staff meetings.
Personal Interaction
Frequent contact is made with all levels of College personnel, students, and outside organizations in relation to routine departmental services and duties in providing appropriate assistance and information as requested. The position interacts with outside agencies in assistance with equipment use and maintenance.

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in related field required; master's preferred. Excellent communication skills and service orientation required. Basic knowledge of early childhood education programs and Gateway credentials.

Tort Liability Statement:
Coordinates the College Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring conditions, events and circumstances present through daily College operations, and communicating observations to the appropriate supervisor or taking necessary actions to correct, prevent or limit safety problems.
