The Skyhawks Men's Basketball team is looking for a breakout season in Head Coach A.J. Sharp's fifth season at the helm.
After finishing 15-14, winning 8 of their last 10 regular season games and falling to Region IV Champions and NJCAA Nationals Final 4 finisher Triton in the Region IV Semi-Finals; the Skyhawks feel this year they can make that next step and compete for the Region IV Championship and more.
The Skyhawks return all four power players from last year led by All-Conference and All-Region selection Devon House. The second returning All-Conference player is forward Andre Brandon. Devon and Andre were 1 & 2 in both scoring and rebounding for the Skyhawks last year. Also returning are 6'9" Riek Riek and 6'5" Davin Fields-Johnson. Add to this group 6'7" Petia Dogale and 6'10" Aarhek Lamp and the Skyhawks feel they have the ability to compete inside with anyone on their schedule.
At the small forward position the Skyhawks return medical redshirt Jonah Lauff, add Dixon All-Area player Jake Gaither, and bring in All-Conference transfer (Carl Sandburg) Atem Agot. Along with returner Craig Jamieson the Skyhawks have talent and depth at the 3 position. Also at the 3 spot Nate Ottens (Sterling) is recovering from a knee injury and will medical redshirt.
At the guard positions the Skyhawks return Sophmores Montez Taylor and Jalen Johnson and add LA Fayne and Devares Whitaker. All four players have the talent to play both the point guard and shooting guard positions to give the Skyhawks depth and talent at each position is redshirt Antonio Fliggins.
The Skyhawks early season schedule includes several of the top ranked teams in the country as they prepare to face their rivals in the Arrowhead Conference and then compete for the Region IV Div. 1 Championship in early March. Then the opportunity to reach the NJCAA National Tournament. Go Skyhawks!
