2019 Sauk Valley Volleyball Team Outlook
After 4 straight regional titles and national tournament appearances, the 2018 team finished as runner-up at the regional tournament - but expectations remain high for the Sauk Valley Volleyball program.
The Skyhawks return three players from last year’s team, all of whom will be relied upon heavily: setter Emily Shrimplin from AFC, middle hitter Hannah Wilson from Sterling Newman, and outside hitter Jaida Dean from Rock Falls. The defense will get a boost from sophomore Aleah Wight from Oregon, a transfer student from Rock Valley, where she was an all-region performer last season.
The Skyhawks have reason to be optimistic with the addition of seven talented freshmen: Lexi Greve comes to Sauk Valley from Seneca, where she was a first team all-area performer, leading her team to its first sectional title since 1985; Juliana Rotella, a 1st Team All-Big Northern outside hitter from Dixon; Madison Craft, an all-conference setter from Sterling Newman; middle hitters Jacie Sullivan from Fieldcrest and Shannon Lytle from Amboy; Hannah McCarty, an opposite hitter from Sterling Newman: and Cassie Bushman, a defensive specialist from Polo.
The 2019 Skyhawks will be tested with another tough schedule, as they face top 20 competition at the MCC, Kirkwood, Lincoln Land and Parkland tournaments.
