2021-22 Men's Tennis Team Outlook

This year’s Men’s tennis team is lucky to have three returning players from the Sauk’s 1st ever Region Runner Up team from last season who competed in the NJCAA National Tournament. The #1 single’s Preston Engel who was the Region 4 Champ and most valuable Player for 2021. Jonathan Rhodes who played 5 singles and along with partner placed 1st at 3 doubles in Regionals. Also, Zach Wallace who played 3 singles and 2 doubles and placed 3rd at Regionals. They know the caliber of competition to expect and are working hard off season to improve their skills.

The three new faces this year will be Abbot Haner from Keokuk Iowa who played 1 singles and qualified for State during his high school career.  He will be a welcomed addition to the Sauk team. Jared Mitchell from Freeport who played in high school a few years back and also qualified for State. Corey Engel from Freeport and Preston’s father will be playing also. They all are very competitive athletes with the skills necessary to be successful at the collegiate level. This is the first time that a father son duo will be playing on the Sauk Men’s team.  Sauk has had a mother daughter play about 17 years ago and were very successful.

We have a very competitive Region to participate in. All the men are working hard off season getting into shape and practicing their skills. Our goal is to place in the top three teams at Regionals to make it to the National Tournament again. We are looking forward to a very challenging season and we believe we will have a successful season.
