Student Success Programs

The goal of the Retention Office is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to be successful.  To accomplish this goal, the Retention Office provides a variety of FREE success-based services:

The Mentoring Program provides support to students who may be transitioning into the college environment. A trained mentor is able to provide encouragement by helping the student:

  • Become more familiar with the SVCC campus
  • Become more familiar with the SVCC programs of study
  • Understand the responsibilities and expectations of a college student
  • Become more familiar with typical duties and expectations of a particular occupation
  • Understand career strategies and options

Student Success Workshops provide students with step by step strategies to improve their study skills, time management skills, and organizational skills. Students may participate in scheduled workshops sessions held on campus or students may visit the student success workshop web page to view workshop sessions and print handouts and materials.

Student Success Sessions are designed to help students identify their individual learning strengths as well as understand how to improve their learning deficiencies. The retention specialist will work with the student in creating a step by step success plan designed to assist the student in accomplishing his/her educational goals.

If you have any questions regarding these services please contact this office at 815-835-6368 or sarah.a.mcfarlane@svcc.edu for more information.
